It's been a while, how have you been? Welcome back to Ichi's Fusion Recipes! Today I wanna share special fried rice inspired by "nasi uduk"  and "nasi kuning." I call it fragrant yellow fried rice with tiger prawn & rosemary. The taste is great and fantastic! Furthermore, this recipe is easy and less ingredient. It sounds, good? Let's rock! 🤞🤞

Inspired by "nasi uduk" and "nasi kuning" I create this recipe with a twist. "Nasi uduk" is one of the Indonesian menus that popular among university students for breakfast when I was in university life. However, it wasn't my menu since I had a tight budget. A cheaper bread was enough for my breakfast even until today I kept this habit.😅 The fragrant smell from "nasi uduk" is come from coconut milk that cooks with rice. No wonder this food has become easy to get attention and loveable among university students, at least in the place where I studied. Meanwhile "nasi kuning" is identic with the celebration such as job promotion, graduation, and birthday. Wait a minute, birthday, really? Yes! My father taught me this tradition. Once I got a birthday celebration at my Kindergarten school. While other parents prefer a birthday cake, my father chose "nasi kuning" for this special occasion. Yellow is a sign of a good thing in our preference. In general, people cook yellow rice only for special events for example birthdays.

Basically, they are two separate food. However, I made a new recipe by combining these two amazing and delectable food with a twist. I do not use coconut milk and give it butter instead to create a fragrant scent. By adding garlic and red onion, make the dish like a "nasi uduk." If you ask Indonesian people about this recipe, they would say this is not "nasi uduk" and it is not "nasi kuning" either. Yes, this is my fusion recipe!😉

Ingredient:
  • 2 potion of Japanese white rice
  • 5-7 g of turmeric
  • 5-7 g of garlic & salt
  • 5 g of peppercorn or black pepper powder
  • 3 - 4 tbsp of butter
  • 5 ml of olive oil
  • 6 cloves of garlic - chop it
  • 1 medium red onion - fine cut or chop it
  • a bunch or 5 stalks of celery
  • 10 pieces of tiger prawn - peeled and tail off
  • 1 stalk of rosemary
These are what you do:
  • Prepare to cook Japanese rice first. I wrote this step in my book before so I do not rewrite it here
  • Prepare the pan, pour olive oil, add garlic and red onion that you chop. Turn on the stove on medium-low flame. Saute for about 3 minutes
  • Add tiger prawn, rosemary, and butter. Cook them for about 5-7 minutes on medium-low flame

  • Add Japanese rice, turmeric, garlic & salt, celery, and black pepper. Turn on the stove on medium-high flame. Quick saute and do not stop for about 5 minutes. Turn the stove on medium-low flame, saute for about 2-3 minutes and turn off the stove. It's done!

  • Tips: we can substitute celery with parsley
Arrange the dinner:
  • Place the fried rice first
  • Arrange the tiger prawn on top of it
  • We can eat this fried rice with veggie soup. I wrote my veggie recipe many times before so it isn't necessary to rewrite it
  • Do not forget to eat fruit!
  • Dinner is ready!

It looks easy cooking, right, since it won't consume our time in the kitchen. To cook veggie soup we just need 5-7 minutes, and 5 minutes for preparing. What can I say, this recipe is one of my favorites as the price of one portion of fried rice from the food stall is about $7; that's the cheapest one. Moreover, the taste of home-cooking food, for me, is far greater than takeaway. Believe me, we can't find any food stall that sells fried rice along with veggie soup. The home menu is definitely the best one!😊
